Description

Jean-Baptiste Bréval (1753 – 1823) was a French composer and cellist. His Treatise on the Violoncello, Op. 42, was published in 1804.

The Six Duets for Violin and Viola were published in the early 1780s; the title page indicates the second part may be played on bass (cello) as well, though that transposition is not included here.

The first movement is a sonata form, the second an Adagio, and the third a Rondo [Presto] marked "Balabille", a Classic period corps de ballet dance, usually spelled Ballabile.
